Retail Profitability Manager

Georgia Natural Gas (GNG), an operating division of SouthStar Energy Services LLC, markets natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Georgia on a firm and interruptible basis. The company, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, serves over 550,000 residential and small commercial customers in Georgia and another 500 interruptible customers throughout the Southeast.

We have an excellent opportunity for Retail Profitability Manager. You will be responsible for maximizing operating margins from the mass market. In particular, customer valuation and segmentation will be critical to the success of profit optimization for this market. This requires the coordination and/or review of initiatives that impact the GNG residential and small commercial & industrial customer segment, including operational, financial, regulatory and marketing support. The position interacts with multiple company departments, as well as current and potential business partners.

The Profitability Manager is responsible for:

  • Managing, owning, and operating Customer Manager Profitability tool.
  • Managing GNG’s customer and product portfolio to optimize gross margin opportunities.
  • Identifying and assigning value to mass customer segments; prescribe unique treatment for each segment for financial and operations purposes.
  • Managing the portfolio of pricing plans offered to customers including, the mix of customers by price plan and implementing new price plans.
  • Participating in the monthly close process between the firm business unit and the finance/accounting group.
  • Consolidating, analyzing, and reporting key financial and operating goals as related to customer portfolio mix.
  • Establishing retail portfolio goals and objectives as part of the business planning process.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or related discipline with at least 7-10 years applicable experience.

Must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of all functional areas within a Company, specifically marketing, customer operations, finance, and commercial.
  • Previous success in managing bottom line responsibility and developing P&L statements for a business unit.
  • Experience in managing a profitability tool or process to develop strategic plans and achieve breakthrough results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, at all levels of the organization: management, staff, and vendors.
  • Previous management experience is required. Must be able to develop and maintain a productive and self-supportive team. Must demonstrate the ability to delegate responsibilities and to ensure the timely and accurate completion of delegated responsibilities.
